The symposium brought together senior surgeons, academic leaders, and international guests to explore how artificial intelligence, robotics, and precision medicine are reshaping surgical practice worldwide.

Focus on AI, robotics, and precision medicine

This year’s central theme, “A Plenary on the Future of Surgery: AI, Robotics & Precision Medicine,” set the tone for a forward-looking scientific discussion on how technology is transforming surgical training, decision-making, and patient care.

The session began with the recitation of the Holy Quran followed by the National Anthem and opening remarks by Prof. Talat Wasim, who introduced the theme and highlighted the growing role of innovation in shaping the future of surgery.

CPSP leadership highlights surgical education challenges

The Chief Guest on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal, President College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) / Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU), addressed participants and shared insights into CPSP’s national and international contributions.

He highlighted key challenges in maintaining quality assurance in surgical education and outlined CPSP’s ongoing strategies to strengthen training standards and improve postgraduate medical education across the country.

Keynote discussions on surgical transformation

The symposium featured a series of keynote addresses by leading experts in the field.

Prof. Syed Asghar Naqi delivered a keynote address titled “The Decade of Change in Surgery,” emphasizing the rapid transformation of surgical practice through technology and evidence-based advancements.

Other notable speakers included Prof. Mahmood Ayyaz (Director General National Residency Program CPSP / Vice Chancellor KEMU), Dr. Hassan Niazi, and Prof. Talat Wasim, along with several international participants who contributed to the academic discourse.

Inauguration of surgical oncology clinic

A significant highlight of the event was the invitation extended to the CPSP President / FJMU Vice Chancellor to inaugurate a Surgical Oncology Clinic, marking an important step toward expanding specialized surgical care.

Plans were also shared regarding the future launch of a postgraduate program in Surgical Oncology, aimed at strengthening clinical services and improving cancer care delivery for patients.

Strengthening Pakistan’s Surgical Future
The symposium concluded with souvenir exchanges, shield distribution, and a group photograph, marking the end of a high-level academic engagement that reinforced Pakistan’s growing focus on advanced surgical training and innovation.

Experts believe such platforms are crucial in bridging the gap between traditional surgical education and the rapidly evolving landscape of AI-driven and technology-assisted surgery.
