LAHORE / KARACHI: The Government of Pakistan has awarded the prestigious Civil Awards to senior dental academic leaders in recognition of their outstanding contributions to dentistry, education, and healthcare development. The investiture ceremonies were held this week at provincial Governor Houses across the country following the official rescheduling of national awards due to austerity measures.
In Lahore, at the Governor House, Prof. Dr. Bilal Ahmed, Principal & Dean, School of Dentistry, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU), Islamabad, was conferred the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz at a formal ceremony led by Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, who decorated recipients on behalf of the state. Dr. Bilal was honoured for his exceptional services in dental education, clinical excellence, academic leadership, and institutional capacity building in Pakistan’s healthcare sector.
In a separate provincial ceremony held in Karachi at the Governor House, senior dental academic Dr. Mahmood Shah received the Sitara-e-Imtiaz for his services in dentistry, public health, and academic advancement. Governor Sindh Nehal Hashmi presided over the investiture ceremony at the Governor House Karachi, recognizing Dr Shah's longstanding contributions to Pakistan’s dental education and healthcare system.
PDA & PDTMA hail Dr Bilal’s achievement
The Pakistan Dental Association (PDA) and the Pakistan Dental Traders & Manufacturers Association (PDTMA) have strongly congratulated Prof. Dr. Bilal Ahmed on receiving the national civil award, describing it as a landmark recognition for the dental profession in Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Khurshid Ahmad, President of the PDA, stated:
“The conferment of Tamgha-e-Imtiaz upon Prof. Dr. Bilal Ahmed is a matter of immense pride for the entire dental community. His lifelong dedication to dental education, clinical excellence, and academic leadership has set benchmarks for future generations. Similarly, PDTMA President Rashid Chughtai praised Dr. Bilal’s contributions, saying:
“Prof. Dr. Bilal Ahmed has played a pivotal role in strengthening the bridge between dental education, clinical practice, and the professional industry. His leadership has helped elevate standards across the dental ecosystem in Pakistan. PDTMA proudly acknowledges his services and celebrates this well-deserved national honour.”
Both organizations emphasized that Dr. Bilal’s recognition reflects decades of commitment toward improving oral healthcare standards, strengthening academic institutions, and mentoring young dental professionals across the country.
Health experts and academic observers note that such recognitions highlight the increasing national focus on strengthening healthcare education and professional excellence in Pakistan.
