ISLAMABAD: In a significant development for Pakistan’s healthcare regulatory landscape, Dr. Syed Farhan Ali Razi has been appointed vice president of the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council (PNMC)—a move that many in the medical and academic community see as an important step toward strengthening the country’s nursing and midwifery workforce.
Dr. Razi currently serves as Vice Chairman of Liaquat College of Medicine and Dentistry (LCMD) and Darul Sehat Hospital (DSH), two prominent healthcare and medical education institutions based in Karachi. His appointment to the national regulatory body comes at a time when Pakistan’s healthcare system is increasingly recognizing the central role of trained nursing professionals in delivering quality patient care.
The Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council (PNMC) is the country’s principal regulatory authority responsible for licensing and registering healthcare professionals including nurses, midwives, lady health visitors (LHVs), and nursing auxiliaries. Through this regulatory framework, the council ensures that professionals entering the field meet the necessary educational, professional, and ethical standards required to practice in Pakistan.
Dr. Syed Farhan Ali Razi brings to the council a strong background in medical education and healthcare administration.
As Vice Chairman of Liaquat College of Medicine and Dentistry, he is associated with one of Karachi’s established medical and dental teaching institutions. The college traces its origins back to the year 2000, when it began as the Liaquat Ali Khan Memorial College of Dentistry, founded in honor of Pakistan’s first prime minister, Shaheed-e-Millat Nawabzada Liaquat Ali Khan.
Over the past two decades, the institution has grown into a comprehensive center of medical and dental education, expanding its academic footprint and training hundreds of healthcare professionals who now serve across Pakistan and abroad.
Dr. Razi is also linked with Darul Sehat Hospital, a 250-bed tertiary care teaching hospital that serves as a clinical training facility for students of Liaquat College of Medicine and Dentistry.
Dr. Razi’s appointment to the leadership of PNMC is therefore being viewed by many observers as a strategic development that connects healthcare regulation with academic leadership and institutional experience.
As Pakistan continues to expand its healthcare infrastructure and medical education sector, the role of PNMC in ensuring quality training, professional standards, and ethical practice remains more important than ever.
With experienced leadership at the helm, stakeholders hope the council will continue to strengthen Pakistan’s nursing and midwifery ecosystem—an essential pillar of the nation’s healthcare system.
Dental News Pakistan congratulates Dr. Syed Farhan Ali Razi on his appointment and extends its best wishes for his success in strengthening Pakistan’s nursing and midwifery regulatory framework.
