CHICAGO: The American Dental Association (ADA) has achieved a milestone in global dentistry after three of its senior leaders were jointly ranked No. 1 in Incisal Edge magazine's 2026 "32 Most Influential People in Dentistry", marking the first time the organization has claimed the top position since the prestigious annual ranking was launched a decade ago.
The recognition goes to ADA Executive Director Dr. Nader Nadershahi, Chief Economist Dr. Marko Vujicic, and Senior Vice President of Government and Public Affairs Jim Schulz, who were collectively recognized for their leadership during a period of rapid transformation in the dental profession.
The annual Incisal Edge ranking is widely regarded as one of dentistry's most closely watched assessments of leadership and influence. Rather than measuring clinical skill or popularity, the list highlights individuals whose decisions, research, advocacy, innovation and business leadership are expected to shape the future direction of dentistry worldwide.
This year's editors said the 2026 ranking focuses on leaders capable of moving dentistry forward at a time when the profession is facing major challenges, including workforce shortages, technological disruption, access to care, artificial intelligence, preventive dentistry and changing healthcare policies.
For the ADA, the recognition comes during a period of institutional transition. Dr. Nadershahi was appointed Executive Director earlier this year after previously serving as the association's senior vice president for education and professional affairs.
He now leads the world's largest dental organization as it works to strengthen membership, modernize services and reinforce its role as the profession's leading scientific, educational and advocacy body. Under the ADA's leadership, the ADA Forsyth Institute also recently became the top recipient of US National Institutes of Health dental research funding.
Alongside Dr. Nadershahi, the magazine recognized Dr. Marko Vujicic for his continuing influence on dental workforce research, oral health economics and health policy through the ADA Health Policy Institute, while Jim Schulz was acknowledged for leading federal advocacy efforts on oral health funding and public health policy.
Beyond the ADA, the ranking reflects several global trends that are increasingly influencing dentistry worldwide.
Artificial intelligence remains one of the fastest-growing areas of dentistry, with Wardah Inam of Overjet and Ophir Tanz of Pearl recognized for accelerating AI-powered diagnostics, workflow automation and clinical decision support technologies that are rapidly being adopted by dental practices internationally.
Innovation in restorative dentistry also featured prominently. Swiss entrepreneurs and dentists Drs. Haley and Goli Abivardi, founders of vVardis, were included for advancing biomimetic technologies designed to regenerate early enamel lesions without conventional drilling.
Global implant dentistry also maintained a strong presence through Guillaume Daniellot, Chief Executive Officer of the Straumann Group, whose company continues expanding digital workflows, implant systems and integrated treatment technologies across international markets.
Meanwhile, Karim Mansour, President of Dental Solutions at Solventum, and Gary Dickenson, Chief Executive Officer of the Seattle Study Club, were recognized for their contributions to dental materials, education and professional development.
The 2026 ranking illustrates how influence in dentistry is increasingly extending beyond clinical practice into areas such as public policy, research funding, artificial intelligence, digital technologies, preventive care and global healthcare leadership.
For dentists, students and researchers in Pakistan, the list offers insight into the individuals and organizations helping shape the profession's future. Many of the priorities reflected in this year's rankings—including AI integration, evidence-based practice, preventive oral healthcare, workforce development and international collaboration—are also becoming increasingly relevant within Pakistan's evolving dental landscape.
