KARACHI: Baqai Dental College, a constituent institution of Baqai Medical University, has reinforced its commitment to interactive dental education by organizing the Intra-Class Quiz Competition – Battle 2 on Dental Material Sciences, providing students with an engaging platform to strengthen their academic knowledge while developing the analytical and teamwork skills required in modern dental practice.

Held on 20 July 2026 by the Department of Science of Dental Materials, the competition brought together eight student teams that competed across a series of intellectually challenging rounds designed to test both theoretical understanding and practical application of dental material sciences.

The event was conducted under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Adel Zia Siddiqui, Professor and Head of the Department of Science of Dental Materials, who has consistently promoted innovative teaching methods that encourage active student participation beyond conventional classroom learning.

Interactive learning takes centre stage

Unlike traditional written assessments, the competition combined education with healthy academic competition through eight interactive rounds, including:

Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs)
Rapid-Fire Round
Visual Identification
Build the Word
Mystery Box
Alphabet Challenge
Buzzer Round
Final competitive challenge

Each round was designed to assess students' understanding of dental material sciences while encouraging quick decision-making, problem-solving abilities, communication skills and collaborative learning.

By integrating knowledge-based challenges with teamwork, the event sought to strengthen students' ability to apply scientific concepts in future clinical settings.

Experts ensure academic excellence

The competition was evaluated by two distinguished academicians from Pakistan's dental education community:

Prof. Dr. Shoaib Khan, Head of the Department of Science of Dental Materials, Ziauddin University
Dr. Syed Akbar Abbas Zaidi, Head of Dental Education, Bahria University Dental College
Their independent assessment and academic expertise ensured a transparent, fair and educationally enriching competition for all participants.

The involvement of external judges also reflected the growing emphasis on maintaining high academic standards through objective evaluation and inter-institutional collaboration.

Preparing future dentists beyond textbooks

Addressing participants during the event, Prof. Dr. Adel Zia Siddiqui emphasized that interactive academic activities play an essential role in promoting active learning and preparing future dental professionals for the evolving demands of contemporary clinical practice.

He highlighted that competitions encouraging critical thinking, rapid clinical reasoning and teamwork help students develop competencies that extend beyond theoretical knowledge and contribute to lifelong professional growth.

The initiative aligns with the broader shift in dental education toward student-centred learning, where active participation and practical engagement complement traditional teaching methods.

Institutional support drives academic innovation

The Department acknowledged the continued encouragement and support of Prof. Dr. Farhan Khan, Principal of Baqai Dental College, for promoting academic excellence and innovative educational activities within the institution.

Appreciation was also extended to Dr. Shafaq Saeed Roghay, Vice Principal (Academics) and Dr. Kelash Kumar, Vice Principal (Administration) for their guidance, administrative leadership and support throughout the planning and successful execution of the event.

The Department further recognized the valuable contributions of the distinguished judges, faculty members, proctors, organizing committee, student volunteers and the college administration, whose collective efforts helped make the competition a success.

Commitment to student-centred dental education

The successful organization of the Intra-Class Quiz Competition – Battle 2 reflects Baqai Dental College's ongoing commitment to strengthening dental education through innovation, collaboration and experiential learning.

By encouraging analytical thinking, teamwork and evidence-based understanding of dental material sciences, such initiatives help prepare future dentists to meet the clinical and professional challenges of an increasingly technology-driven healthcare environment.
