LAHORE: In a significant academic initiative aimed at strengthening orthodontic training and clinical competence, the Fatima Jinnah Institute of Dental Sciences (FJIDS), Lahore, is set to organize a specialized Wire Bending Workshop focusing on the Biomechanics of Loops, with practical hands-on training in T Loop and Opus Loop fabrication and application.
Scheduled for June 5, 2026, the workshop will take place from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Orthodontic Department, FJIDS Lahore, bringing together orthodontic educators, postgraduate trainees, residents, and dental professionals interested in mastering advanced wire bending techniques.
Focus on orthodontic biomechanics, clinical skills
Loop mechanics remain one of the most critical components of contemporary orthodontic treatment planning, particularly in space closure, controlled tooth movement, anchorage management, and force delivery. Understanding the biomechanical principles behind loop designs allows orthodontists to achieve predictable treatment outcomes while minimizing unwanted side effects.
The workshop has been designed to provide participants with both theoretical understanding and practical exposure to loop construction, activation, and clinical applications. Attendees will receive hands-on guidance in fabricating T Loops and Opus Loops, two commonly used orthodontic loop systems that play an essential role in controlled tooth movement.
In addition to practical training, the session will also include a dedicated discussion on TOACS and examination preparation, making it particularly valuable for orthodontic residents and postgraduate candidates preparing for professional assessments.
Renowned orthodontic faculty to lead training
The workshop will be facilitated by distinguished orthodontic educators from leading dental institutions in Pakistan.
The primary facilitators include:
• Dr. Muhammad Azeem, Head of Orthodontics at Fatima Jinnah Institute of Dental Sciences, Lahore.
• Dr. Sohaib Hassan, Head of Orthodontics at CMH Quetta College of Dentistry.
The event will be co-facilitated by:
• Dr. Nayha Enver, Assistant Professor of Orthodontics at FJIDS.
The faculty is expected to provide detailed demonstrations, share clinical insights, discuss biomechanical principles, and address common challenges encountered during orthodontic wire bending procedures.
Importance of hands-on orthodontic training
With increasing emphasis on evidence-based orthodontics and competency-based dental education, practical workshops have become an essential component of postgraduate learning. While digital orthodontics and aligner technologies continue to evolve, proficiency in wire bending and loop mechanics remains a fundamental skill for orthodontists worldwide.
Experts emphasize that mastery of loop design not only enhances treatment efficiency but also strengthens a clinician's understanding of force systems, biomechanics, and individualized treatment planning.
Programs such as this workshop help bridge the gap between classroom learning and clinical application, allowing trainees to refine their technical abilities under expert supervision.
Registration and venue details
The workshop will be conducted at the Orthodontic Department, Fatima Jinnah Institute of Dental Sciences (FJIDS), Lahore.
For registration and further information, interested participants may contact Dr. Zainab Mukhtar at 0333-4817712.
Given the practical nature of the training and growing interest in advanced orthodontic education across Pakistan, strong participation from residents, postgraduate trainees, and practicing orthodontists is expected.
