FJIDS and Azra Naheed Dental College hold joint orthodontic case planning session

LAHORE: The Fatima Jinnah Institute of Dental Sciences (FJIDS) recently hosted an intercollegiate orthodontic case discussion and planning session in collaboration with Azra Naheed Dental College, marking another step toward strengthening academic exchange and evidence-based orthodontic training.

The session was held on the initiative of Prof Dr Armaghan Mirza, Dean FJIDS, with the objective of fostering structured clinical reasoning, peer learning, and collaborative treatment planning among faculty and postgraduate trainees.

Faculty-led academic exchange

The academic session was jointly moderated by Dr Munawar Manzoor Ali, Associate Professor of Orthodontics at Superior University, and Dr Muhammad Azeem, Head of the Orthodontics Department at FJIDS. Both senior faculty members guided the discussion, offering detailed insights into diagnosis, biomechanics, and individualized treatment planning.

Case-based learning at the core

A key highlight of the session was the presentation of orthodontic cases by postgraduate trainees, reinforcing a problem-based learning approach. Dr Zainab Mukhtar and Dr Rabia Aziz presented their cases, which were discussed in depth with respect to diagnosis, treatment objectives, appliance selection, and anticipated outcomes.

The interactive format allowed participants to engage in critical analysis, clarify clinical decision-making pathways, and align treatment strategies with current orthodontic principles.

Strengthening academic collaboration

Such intercollegiate academic engagements play a vital role in standardizing orthodontic education, promoting faculty mentorship, and encouraging constructive peer review. By bringing together institutions under a shared academic platform, FJIDS continues to reinforce its commitment to clinical excellence and postgraduate training.

Looking ahead

The session reflects a growing emphasis within Pakistan’s dental academia on structured case discussions, interdisciplinary dialogue, and outcome-driven orthodontic care. Faculty members noted that continued collaboration of this nature will further enhance learning outcomes and prepare trainees for complex clinical challenges.

Dental News Pakistan will continue to highlight academic initiatives that contribute meaningfully to dental education, clinical training, and professional development across the country.
