MIRPURKHAS: Bhitai Dental & Medical College (BDMC) observed World No Tobacco Day 2025 with a dynamic awareness campaign aimed at educating youth about the severe health risks of tobacco use. Organized by the BDMC Management in collaboration with the Student Affairs Department, the event carried the powerful message: "Say No to Tobacco – Yes to Life!"
This year’s global theme from the World Health Organization (WHO) focused on protecting children and youth from the tobacco industry's manipulative tactics. BDMC responded with strong, unified participation from its students and faculty in promoting smoke-free lifestyles and community-wide health awareness.
Event highlights that made a difference:
- Awareness walk: Students and faculty participated in a spirited walk across campus and surrounding areas, carrying placards and banners that warned against the dangers of smoking and tobacco addiction.
- Informative poster presentations: Thought-provoking posters created by students were displayed, illustrating tobacco's devastating health consequences—particularly on the lungs, heart, and oral cavity.
- Interactive awareness session: Health professionals, student leaders, and faculty members engaged in meaningful discussions with attendees, emphasizing the importance of early prevention, quitting strategies, and the life-saving benefits of staying tobacco-free.
Why BDMC’s anti-tobacco initiative matters
The campaign aligns with BDMC’s broader commitment to community health education, preventive medicine, and empowering future healthcare professionals. The event not only fostered student engagement but also served as a reminder of the pivotal role medical institutions play in driving public awareness about non-communicable disease (NCD) prevention.
According to WHO, tobacco use continues to be one of the leading preventable causes of death globally. By empowering youth with credible information and positive role models, institutions like BDMC are at the forefront of creating a tobacco-free generation.
