Dental startups raise $24 million as investors bet on AI and oral care innovation

Dental startups are attracting strong investor interest, with two innovative companies raising a combined $24 million to reshape oral care and insurance administration. The funding reflects growing confidence in technology-driven solutions that can improve patient outcomes and reduce inefficiencies in the dental industry.

California-based ZERObrush secured $10.8 million in Series A funding to advance its fully automated, custom-fit oral cleaning device. Designed to replace the traditional toothbrush, the patented solution promises a “dentist-level clean” in just 30 seconds. Founded by cosmetic dentist Dr. Nidhi Pai, ZERObrush says its device can remove nearly twice as much plaque as a manual toothbrush while being five times more effective at reaching difficult areas like the back teeth and gumline.

Early clinical studies also suggest ZERObrush users experience reduced gum inflammation and bleeding.

“Millions of people still suffer from gum disease and tooth decay despite regular brushing,” said Dr. Pai. “Our goal is to make oral hygiene effortless, efficient, and more effective by combining technology with personalized care.”

The Series A round was backed by Large CPG Strategic, Social Capital, several angel investors, and a senior executive from Meta. ZERObrush aims for a commercial launch in 2026, targeting both direct-to-consumer and dental practice markets.

Meanwhile, Boston-based LightSpun (formerly 32Health) raised $13 million in Series A funding led by Brewer Lane, with participation from Virtue, Cambrian, and Industry Ventures. The company’s total funding now stands at $18 million.

LightSpun uses AI-powered automation to overhaul dental insurance administration, an area plagued by slow claims processing and high overhead costs. Currently, nearly 300 million Americans rely on dental insurance, yet claims take 15–60 days to process, with one in seven still submitted by paper or fax. LightSpun says its platform can automatically process more than 90% of claims, cut administrative costs by half, and reduce provider credentialing time from two months to under a week.

“Dental insurance runs on infrastructure that most businesses abandoned decades ago,” said Rohan Malhotra, general partner at Brewer Lane. “That’s why it’s ripe for automation and why AI can meaningfully reshape industry economics.”

LightSpun has also partnered with the American Dental Association (ADA) to launch AI-driven provider credentialing nationwide, aiming to simplify access for dental practices and patients.

With significant backing and a growing focus on AI in healthcare, these two startups highlight how technology is helping solve long-standing challenges in oral health — from everyday brushing habits to streamlining insurance systems.
