Scarlett Johansson leads SNL’s cut-for-time “dentocratic oath” sketch in hilarious dental school parody

Saturday Night Live’s Season 50 finale delivered more than just laughs—it offered a clever, uproarious twist on the Hippocratic Oath, thanks to a viral cut-for-time sketch called “Graduation Day.” Featuring Scarlett Johansson, the sketch imagines a dental school commencement ceremony where new dentists pledge to a hilariously chaotic version of their professional oath—dubbed the “dentocratic oath.”

Originally cut from the live show and later released online by NBC, the sketch is already winning hearts across the dental community and beyond.

Scarlett Johansson headlines the “dentocratic oath”

In the sketch, Johansson plays valedictorian Penny Shannon, proudly announcing her new job at “Oceanside Tooth and Breath” in Cleveland, Ohio—“the office right next to the Panda Express.” She’s introduced by Dr. Tuck Methang, played by longtime SNL star Kenan Thompson, who kicks off the mock graduation ceremony.

Flanked by co-stars Bowen Yang, Sarah Sherman, and Michael Longfellow, Johansson begins what seems like a traditional pledge, only for the script to take a comedic nosedive:

“I promise to break, stab, yank, crack, crunch, bust up, jack up, strike, confuse, irritate, penetrate, stab—oh wait, did I already say stab? Well, yeah, ’cause imma be stabbin’.”

The “dentocratic oath” doesn’t stop there. It features lines like, “I swear to do as much harm as possible,” and pokes fun at how dentists reassure patients that X-rays are safe—just before “covering them with a lead blanket and running out of the room.”

Dentists are loving it

Although it was cut from the live finale, fans—and especially dental professionals—are praising the sketch for its sharp humor and inside jokes. One dentist joked on social media, “I can say that 4 out of 5 dental professionals recommend this sketch. Absolutely hilarious.” Another lamented, “Mad this was cut. This was pure gold.”

A recent dental school graduate even suggested SNL explore a follow-up featuring “a dentist and her wild, dynamic office staff.”

A highlight of Season 50’s finale

The sketch aired during the Season 50 finale’s dress rehearsal and was released online shortly after. Johansson, who is no stranger to the SNL stage, hosted the episode on May 17, 2025, with Bad Bunny as the musical guest.

Whether you’re in dentistry or just love clever satire, the “dentocratic oath” is a perfect prescription for a hearty laugh—and proof that even serious professions aren’t immune to SNL’s biting wit.
