LAHORE: Contemporary dental practice, clinical management and scientific learning took centre stage at the 5th Annual Interdisciplinary Scientific Conference 2026 of Akhtar Saeed Medical, Dental & Affiliated Colleges, held recently at Akhtar Saeed Medical and Dental College, Bahria Town, Lahore.
Held under the theme “Together for Health, Stand with Science,” the conference brought together faculty members, dental professionals, postgraduate trainees and students for an academic programme focused on emerging clinical concepts, scientific knowledge and interdisciplinary exchange.
The dental scientific programme covered a wide range of clinical subjects, with presentations addressing areas from facial deformity correction and oral cancer management to endodontic failures, tooth wear, smile aesthetics and digital dental assessment.
Dental programme covers diverse clinical topics
The scientific sessions featured presentations by senior dental academics and clinicians as well as postgraduate residents, providing participants with exposure to different aspects of contemporary dental practice.
Prof. Moghees Baig, who participated as a guest speaker, delivered a presentation on Surgical Correction of Facial Deformity, addressing a complex area at the intersection of dental, maxillofacial and surgical care.
Prof. Dr. Sabir Hussain presented on Oral Cancer Management, focusing on an important area of dental and oral healthcare in which early recognition, diagnosis and appropriate management are central to patient care.
The programme also included a presentation by Prof. Dr. Shahid Mehmood on “Endodontics: Management of Failure,” examining the clinical challenges associated with unsuccessful endodontic treatment.
Tooth wear, aesthetics and digital dentistry featured
The scientific programme further explored issues directly relevant to restorative and aesthetic dental practice.
Prof. Dr. Asif Ali Shah presented on Management of Tooth Wear, while Prof. Dr. Col. Iftat Batool addressed Smile Aesthetics.
The conference also featured postgraduate research presentations involving comparisons of conventional and digital approaches in dental assessment.
Dr. Maryam Nasir, a postgraduate resident, presented research titled “Comparison Between Manual and Digital Tracing on Cephalogram,” focusing on two approaches used in cephalometric analysis.
Another postgraduate resident, Dr. Mehwish Sabir, presented “Effectiveness of Kalotast Dressing in Extraction Sockets,” examining the effectiveness of the dressing in post-extraction socket management.
Together, the presentations covered clinical treatment, diagnostic approaches, dental aesthetics, oral cancer care and postgraduate research, giving participants a broad view of contemporary issues across multiple areas of dentistry.
Conference recognises academic, professional contributions
Beyond the scientific sessions, the conference included a recognition and appreciation segment for contributors and participants.
Shields and certificates were presented during the programme in recognition of academic and professional contributions to the event.
The conference was moderated by Dr. Kanza Nawadat, who guided the proceedings and scientific programme.
In the closing remarks, Prof. Dr. Sadia Minhas, Principal, Akhtar Saeed Dental College, thanked the speakers, participants and organisers for their contributions to the conference.
The event also brought pharmaceutical and healthcare companies into the conference setting, adding an industry engagement component to the academic programme.
