ISLAMABAD: The Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) 2026 has taken another turn, with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) announcing a fresh five-day registration window for candidates who have yet to complete the registration process.
According to a public notice issued by PMDC on August 13, 2026, the MDCAT 2026 online registration portal will again be available from August 17 to August 21, with the prescribed fee, to facilitate remaining candidates for the examination now scheduled for September 20, 2026.
The latest move comes just days after PMDC postponed the examination from its previously announced August 16 date, adding another development to an MDCAT cycle that has already seen changes in its examination timeline and registration arrangements.
PMDC reopens portal for remaining candidates
The August 13 notice specifically states that the online registration portal will be live again from August 17 through August 21.
The additional window is intended to facilitate candidates who have not completed their MDCAT registration, giving them another opportunity to enter the examination process before the September 20 test.
Candidates will be required to pay the prescribed registration fee during the new window.
PMDC has also cautioned that it reserves the right to cancel incomplete applications, making completion of the registration process particularly important for candidates using the additional opportunity.
The council has advised candidates and other concerned stakeholders to continue visiting its official website for further details.
The latest change follows August 6 exam postponement
The fresh registration window comes only a week after PMDC announced a major change to the MDCAT 2026 schedule.
On August 6, PMDC postponed the examination from August 16 to September 20, 2026, saying the decision had been taken on the directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to ensure the "smooth, secure and transparent conduct" of the examination.
The decision followed sustained concerns among students and parents over the examination timeline, particularly the relatively short preparation period following intermediate examinations. A petition seeking postponement had also been filed before the Lahore High Court around the same period.
PMDC's August 6 announcement, however, did not provide a detailed explanation of what specific development had prompted the change, beyond citing the Prime Minister's directions.
MDCAT date had been set months earlier
The current uncertainty follows a schedule that had initially appeared settled.
On May 19, 2026, PMDC announced that MDCAT 2026 would be held on August 16.
The council also stated that the MDCAT syllabus and curriculum notified for 2025 would remain applicable for the 2026 examination, while candidates were advised to monitor PMDC's official communications for registration and examination-related updates.
On June 19, PMDC subsequently released further details for the examination, confirming the August 16 date and announcing arrangements for the test to be conducted across Pakistan as well as in Riyadh.
The online registration process was scheduled to open on June 22 and close on July 8 with the normal fee.
The latest notice now effectively adds another registration opportunity after the examination date itself has been moved.
Why the latest registration window matters
For candidates who missed or could not complete the earlier registration process, the August 17-21 window may be crucial.
Candidates who intend to use the new opportunity will therefore need to complete their applications within the specified five-day period and ensure that all required information is submitted correctly.
For now, September 20 remains the scheduled date for MDCAT 2026.
A medical entrance test caught in a shifting timeline
The latest development cannot be viewed in isolation from the sequence of decisions surrounding MDCAT 2026.
Students first received an August 16 examination date in May, followed by detailed registration arrangements in June. Concerns over preparation time and the examination schedule continued to surface as the test approached.
Then, just days before the scheduled examination, PMDC shifted the test to September 20.
Now, with the examination postponed, the council has reopened registration for remaining candidates for another five days.
For students, each change affects more than a date on a calendar. MDCAT determines access to MBBS and BDS admissions and therefore has a direct bearing on admission planning, preparation schedules and the academic year ahead.
The additional registration window may help candidates who were unable to complete the earlier process, but it also adds another moving part to an admission cycle that has already required students to repeatedly adjust their plans.
