KARACHI: Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) is set to announce the BDS admission process for private dental colleges across Sindh on Sunday, November 8, initiating the admission cycle for aspiring dental students for the 2026–27 academic session.

The development follows a high-level coordination meeting convened by JSMU with private medical and dental colleges across Sindh on Friday, November 6, under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Amjad Siraj Memon. The meeting focused on establishing a centralised, transparent and uniform admission framework for MBBS and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) programmes across participating institutions.

Under the arrangements discussed at the meeting, the centralised admission application form will be made available on the JSMU website, where candidates will be able to access and submit their applications. Participating colleges will publish their prospectuses and approved fee structures on their respective websites, enabling applicants to review institution-specific information before making their choices.

The admission announcement will also be published in leading newspapers, including Dawn, Jang and Kawish.

The coordination meeting was organised by the JSMU Office of Admissions under the leadership of Director Admissions Dr Fatima, who coordinated with participating private institutions and facilitated the meeting. Director Affiliation Dr Rahat Naz also attended.

Discussions centred on merit-based admissions, uniform procedures and effective coordination among the participating institutions, with the aim of ensuring a fair and transparent selection process and equal opportunities for aspiring medical and dental students across Sindh.

Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Amjad Siraj Memon emphasised that merit and transparency would remain central to the admission process. He also appreciated Dr Fatima for successfully organising the meeting and coordinating with the private institutions.

Public-sector MBBS seat allocation enters final phase

Separately, JSMU is conducting the final phase of merit-based MBBS seat allocation for the 2026 admissions, covering four public-sector medical institutions: Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), Karachi Medical and Dental College (KMDC) and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical College (SMBBMC), Lyari.

The two-day allocation exercise is being held at Sindh Medical College, JSMU, under a merit-cum-choice system, whereby seats are allotted according to candidates' merit positions and institutional preferences. Representatives of the participating institutions are also present to coordinate and oversee the process.

Candidates ranked 1–469 were accommodated on Saturday, November 7, while those ranked 470 onward are scheduled for allocation on Sunday, November 8.

Emphasising the principles guiding the exercise, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Amjad Siraj Memon said that merit and transparency remained central to the process, with every seat to be allocated strictly according to the candidate's merit position and stated preferences.

Candidates scheduled for Sunday's allocation have been advised to report to Sindh Medical College at 9:00 am with their original documents, including CNIC or B-Form, admit card and merit list slip. The allocation results will be displayed on the JSMU official website, www.jsmu.edu.pk, and university notice boards.

For prospective BDS candidates, the November 8 announcement marks an important step towards admissions at private dental colleges across Sindh. Applicants should monitor the JSMU website for the centralised application form and individual college websites for prospectuses, approved fee structures and further admission instructions.
